Christmas gifts for pregnant mums from UAE brands

Eleven UAE brands for a pregnant mum at Christmas: a snowflake dress, a lounge set, a pillow, a spa voucher, bump oil and a bauble for the bump.

Being pregnant at Christmas is its own kind of festive. The party dress no longer does up, the mulled wine is off the table, and by eight o’clock the sofa looks better than any invitation. It is also the last Christmas before the baby, or the first one with a bump in the photographs, and that is worth marking.

These Christmas gifts for pregnant mums come from eleven brands founded in or based in the UAE, from a Dubai tailoring house and an independent spa group to small studios that personalise by hand. There is something to wear on Christmas Day, things that make the long evenings more comfortable, an hour off her feet, bump care, a ready-made box, a bauble for the bump’s first Christmas, a way to share the news, and two gifts for the months after the birth.

Use it with her in mind rather than the list. A pregnant friend may want nothing more than a good night’s sleep, while a pregnant wife may like something that feels like a celebration rather than a practical purchase. Ask what she already has, because the bump-care drawer fills quickly, and read each brand’s own page for sizes and options before you order. We have left out prices, because they change, and we have described each piece from what the brand itself says about it.

Before you choose

Buy clothes for the bump she will have on the day. A body changes a lot between October and late December. Follow each brand’s size guide, size up if the brand suggests it, and tuck in a gift receipt or check the exchange policy before you wrap anything.

Check before you book a massage. Spas set their own guidance on when in pregnancy they offer a pregnancy massage, and she should check with her doctor first. A voucher with a long validity is the kinder choice, because she can use it now or keep it for after the birth.

Read the label on anything for her skin. Bump oils and butters list their ingredients on the brand’s page. If she is unsure about any of them, her doctor or midwife can advise. We have quoted only what each brand says about its own product.

Think about who knows. If the pregnancy is still news to some of the family, keep announcement gifts for a private moment rather than the main present-opening. Christmas pregnancy announcement ideas work best when the couple chooses the audience.

Order early. Personalised pieces are made after you order and usually cannot be returned. Our guide on when to order Christmas gifts in Dubai covers the timing.

Neon Star: a red snowflake dress for Christmas Day

Neon Star is a Dubai fashion brand founded in 2016, which designs every piece in-house and hand tailors it in Dubai at its own tailoring house. The French Dress in Mac Red Snowflakes is a short, tiered dress in a red print scattered with white snowflakes, with a curved waist hem for a baby-doll look and deep side pockets.

It sits in the brand’s maternity collection, and the brand describes the fit as loose and comfortable, with a note to size up if in doubt. The size guide runs from XXS to XXXL, and the brand says its styles can be made in any of its prints and colours. It is a dress for Christmas lunch that she can still wear in the spring, which is more than most party dresses manage.

Bumply: a soft tee and trousers set for the sofa

Bumply is a Dubai shop for maternity and nursing loungewear, which says it began to fill a gap in clothes for pregnancy and the months after. Its Mama Set in Lavender pairs the Grow With Me Tee with The Everyday Maternity Pants, and the top has discreet nursing openings built in.

The brand describes the set as made to keep its shape from pregnancy through nursing, and the top and trousers are sized separately, from XS to XL, which helps when a bump and the rest of her do not agree on a size. If you were looking for maternity Christmas pyjamas, this is the nearest thing we found from a UAE brand. It is the set she will live in on Boxing Day, and again at three in the morning a few months later.

Cotton Home: a U-shaped pregnancy pillow

Cotton Home is a UAE bedding brand with a showroom in Ajman. Its Serenity Velvet Pregnancy Pillow is a U-shaped full-body pillow, 70 by 140 centimetres, filled with supportive fibres, with a velvet cover that comes off for washing.

It arrives vacuum-sealed, so it travels well under the tree, and the brand says it can double as a nursing pillow once the baby is here. Sleep gets harder as the bump grows, and a pillow that supports her back and bump at once is a practical gift she will use every night. It takes up a fair share of the bed, so it may be worth a word with her partner first.

SENSASIA Spas: a mum-to-be massage voucher with a candle

SENSASIA is an independent UAE spa group that has been running since 2004. Its For the Mum-to-Be Voucher & Candle Bundle pairs a spa voucher for a 60 or 90 minute Nurturing Mother-To-Be Massage with a scented candle called Pregnant and Still On Top.

You choose the voucher design, with names such as Bump Boss and Because Growing a Human Is Wild, and a black or gold ribbon. The voucher is valid for a year and can be used at any SENSASIA spa. The massage itself is part of the spa’s SensMama menu, done while she lies slightly inclined on her side. It is the gift for a pregnant wife who would never book an afternoon off for herself.

Yinyang Spa: a pregnancy massage, by the hour

Yinyang is a UAE spa group with four spas in Dubai and one in Abu Dhabi. Its Maternity Massage & Pregnancy Massage focuses on the lower back, hips, shoulders and legs, using specially designed pillows and positioning to keep her comfortable.

It comes in 30, 45, 60 or 90 minute sessions at all five spas, and the spa sells gift vouchers on its site. The page itself recommends starting after the first trimester, with monthly sessions in the second and weekly ones in the third, so check where she is before you choose. Several shorter sessions can be kinder than one long one, and they spread the gift across the weeks when she needs it most.

Aroma Tierra: a rosehip oil for the bump

Aroma Tierra is a Dubai natural skincare brand. Its Rosehip Stretch Mark Oil is a 100ml oil made with seventeen botanicals, among them rosehip, tamanu, pomegranate, almond, sea buckthorn, evening primrose and frankincense, and scented with patchouli and geranium essential oils.

The brand’s directions are to apply it twice a day from the beginning of pregnancy until three months after the birth. For a gift that looks ahead, the Joyful Journey gift set pairs the oil with a baby massage oil made with calendula, jojoba and almond oils. A bump oil is a good Christmas gift for a pregnant friend or colleague: small, useful and easy to wrap. Share the ingredients list if she likes to check.

Mama’s Box: a pregnancy gift box, ready to give

Mama’s Box is a UAE shop that puts together pregnancy gift boxes by trimester and delivers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Its 1st Trimester Pregnancy Gift Box holds a pregnancy journal by Pearhead, a Yummy Mummy-to-be mug, a caffeine-free morning tea, a stretch mark lotion and a Rolling Mama car sign, with a letter from the baby to the mum.

It suits a couple who share their news over Christmas, when the first weeks are often the hardest and the least talked about. Because everything is chosen for you, it is also one of the easiest Christmas gift ideas for pregnant women when you are buying from a distance. Check the brand’s other boxes if she is further along.

The Party: a photo bauble for the bump’s first Christmas

The Party is a Dubai family business whose pieces are designed and made in the UAE. Its Personalised Christmas Baubles are made from bamboo or birch, with your favourite photo on one side and an engraved message on the other. You email the photo as a high-resolution file, and choose the glitter colour for the top, from two golds, silver, red or green.

Our suggestion: put the scan on one side and a short line on the other, such as “Bump’s first Christmas” and the year. It goes on the tree this December and every December after, and by the third year someone small will want to know who is in the picture. For names instead of a photo, the brand also makes acrylic baubles with raised 3D lettering.

Pretty Little Sketching: an illustrated card to share the news

Pretty Little Sketching is an illustration studio based in Dubai. Its Create Your Card builder lets you draw up to two adults and two children, add pets and accessories, and choose a background and a themed banner, with options such as Baby Girl, Baby Boy, Fairy Lights and Gold Stars. A header of up to 100 characters is written in calligraphy on the card, which the studio prints and wraps in its own packaging.

As a Christmas pregnancy announcement, it is gentle and personal: the two of you drawn as you are, a Fairy Lights banner and a header with the month the baby is due. You could make one for each set of grandparents-to-be, to open on Christmas morning. For more ideas with names and dates on them, see our guide to personalised Christmas gifts and keepsakes.

Mersam Designs: a memory book to start before the birth

Mersam Designs is a UAE-based online gift store with a small range of baby keepsakes. The Arabic & English Baby Memory Book is a hardcover book with the two languages side by side, and sections for pregnancy, monthly growth, firsts and family photos.

Given at Christmas, the pregnancy pages are the ones she can fill in now, with the scan and her notes from these months. We did not find a pregnancy journal made in the UAE, and this book covers the pregnancy and the first year together, which means it is not put away after the birth. It suits families who speak both languages at home, and for the baby’s own first Christmas next year, our list of baby’s first Christmas gifts picks up where this one ends.

Milky Makers: a gift box for when the baby arrives

Milky Makers is a cookie maker based in Dubai. Its Mama Gift Box is a white gift box filled with the brand’s lactation treats, which it says are freshly made and can be frozen for up to six months or kept in a dry place for seven weeks.

Lactation treats are made for breastfeeding, so this is a gift for after the birth rather than for Christmas Day. That is what makes it thoughtful: it goes into the freezer now and comes out in the early weeks, when nobody has time to bake and everyone is hungry. Add a note saying so, so it is not opened with the mince pies.

Let’s sum up

The best Christmas gifts for pregnant mums make the season easier or mark it. From this list, that might be a snowflake dress from Neon Star, a lounge set from Bumply or a pregnancy pillow from Cotton Home. For an hour off her feet, there is a voucher from SENSASIA or Yinyang. For the bump, a rosehip oil from Aroma Tierra or a ready-made box from Mama’s Box. To mark the year, a photo bauble from The Party, an illustrated card from Pretty Little Sketching or a memory book from Mersam Designs, and for later, a freezer box from Milky Makers. Check sizes, check with her doctor before a massage, and order early.

Questions about Christmas gifts for pregnant mums

Something small and useful, or something that gives her time back. A bump oil, a soft lounge set or a massage voucher all work, and a voucher with a long validity lets her use it now or after the birth. If you know the due month, a bauble for the bump’s first Christmas is a sweet extra. Ask what she already has before you buy.

Gifts that feel like a treat rather than a chore. A dress that fits on Christmas Day, a spa voucher she would never book herself, or a full-body pillow for better sleep are all good choices. For something to keep, a photo bauble with the scan or a memory book she can start now marks the last Christmas before the baby.

An illustrated card for each set of grandparents-to-be, opened on Christmas morning, is a gentle one. A bauble with the scan on it is another, hung on the tree for someone to notice. Choose the moment and the audience yourselves, and keep it private if the news is not ready for the whole family.

We did not find a UAE brand making maternity pyjamas with a Christmas print. The nearest is a maternity and nursing lounge set, such as Bumply’s Mama Set, which has nursing openings and separately sized tops and trousers. For the whole family in matching sets, see our guide to matching Christmas pyjamas from Dubai brands.

It can be, as long as she checks with her doctor first and the spa offers it at her stage of pregnancy. Yinyang’s page, for example, recommends starting after the first trimester. A voucher valid for a year, such as SENSASIA’s, means she can book when it suits her, before or after the birth.
